Press Release

Taymour Grahne Gallery is pleased to announce its participation in the sixth Focus edition of The Armory Show, March 5 - 8, 2015, booth 631.  For this year’s edition, the gallery will present artworks by Fayçal Baghriche and Lamia Joreige, artists who stretch the limits of documentary practice, incorporating poetic gesture and traces of the body in their work.

Paris-based artist Fayçal Baghriche’s practice is characterized by simple gestures, which are often attainable without recourse to any specialist expertise.  Drawing on fundamental principles of image rhetoric such as subtraction, inversion, or acceleration, he creates artworks that question the schema that organizes human societies.

Lamia Joreige is a visual artist and filmmaker who lives and works in Beirut.  She uses archival documents and elements of fiction to reflect on history and its possible narration, and the relation between individual stories and collective memory.  Her practice is rooted in her country’s experience and explores the possibilities of representation of the Lebanese wars and their aftermath, particularly in Beirut, a city at the center of her imagery.  For this year’s Armory Show 2015 Symposium: The Way Things Can Go, Lamia Joreige will join the conversation at The Media Lounge on Pier 94 for the talk, Making Discourse on Saturday, March 7, from 2:15 – 3:15pm.

Running concurrently, Lamia Joreige’s first solo exhibition in the United States, Records for Uncertain Times will open at Taymour Grahne Gallery on February 26, 2015, from 6 - 8pm, closing April 9, 2015.
